Overview
Description
Maillayer is a self-hosted email platform you buy once and run on your own server. It replaces Resend and similar subscription tools by connecting to Amazon SES, SendGrid, Mailgun, Postmark, Cloudflare Email, or SMTP for delivery, so your sending costs stay at your provider's rate rather than a per-contact fee. It handles campaigns, drip sequences, transactional email, contacts, and forms in one SQLite-based container, with built-in Stripe, Firebase, Supabase, Google Sheets, and Airtable sync, plus a generic webhook for anything else.
Details
Pros
One-time payment, no subscription or per-contact pricing
Unlimited emails through your own provider account
Deploys on any VPS or Railway with a single container, no Postgres or Redis needed
Covers campaigns, sequences, and transactional email in one tool
Built-in SPF, DKIM, DMARC setup, and automatic bounce and complaint handling
Supports up to 10 domains and unlimited brands on one license
Cons
You manage your own server, updates, and uptime
Deliverability still depends on your SES, SendGrid, or Mailgun reputation and setup
Fewer prebuilt integrations than larger SaaS platforms; custom events need the generic webhook
SQLite backend may not suit teams expecting a full Postgres setup
Support runs on email, not live chat
