Foremerge catches intent conflicts before code conflicts

Overview

Foremerge is an open-source coordination protocol for coding agents built above Git. Agents keep isolated worktrees while sharing intent, semantic claims, ChangeSets, and verification. It solves the problem in which Git, which compares text rather than intent, fails to detect conflicts when multiple agents work on the same project. Even when changes do not overlap textually, agents can undo each other's work—such as one agent removing an extension point the other depends on—without Git raising an alarm.

Foremerge addresses this by requiring agents to declare their intent and semantic scope before editing. Agents read from a shared awareness layer within the project's .git folder, allowing them to see each other's plans. If two plans collide, Foremerge raises an explainable advisory warning that suggests how to split the work, without locking files or asking a model to judge conflicts.
