Overview
SynthID is a watermark created by Google DeepMind that hides in AI-generated images, videos, audio, and text, so the content can be identified as AI-made later. People can't see or hear it, and it's used by models from Google, Nvidia, OpenAI, and Kakao.
Unlike a visible logo or file metadata, which can be stripped off, the watermark is built into the content itself: the pixels of images and video, and the sound frequencies of audio. That means it stays with the file as it's shared and reshared online. It isn't foolproof, though, so you should check other clues too before deciding whether something is AI-made. SynthID is meant to be a building block for better AI detection tools, helping people decide how much to trust what they see.
