Parrot is a free, open-source push-to-talk dictation tool for macOS that lets you speak into any text field by holding the fn key, speaking, and releasing the key. Words appear at your cursor typically in under 300 milliseconds, and the entire process runs locally on Apple Silicon Macs running macOS 14 or later — no account, subscription, or cloud connection required.

Because everything happens on your Mac, nothing you say is transmitted or stored. You can also teach the system custom spellings for names and specialized terms so they appear correctly in your text.
