Overview
Prequel is a macOS screen recorder that captures your screen, webcam, microphone, and system audio and then immediately opens an editor where automatic zooms have been placed on every click and burst of typing, the camera view is framed in a corner of your choice, and a background (wallpaper, preset gradient, or solid) is applied. The editor lets you adjust those zooms, move the camera, trim dead air on a real‑time waveform timeline, smooth or hide the cursor, and export a single MP4 file at up to 4K resolution and 120 fps using your Mac’s hardware H.264 or HEVC encoder and Metal compositing.
Without Prequel, a raw screen recording is flat and requires manual post‑production to add zooms, frame a webcam, add a background, clean up the cursor, and remove dead air. Prequel solves that by doing those steps automatically during recording, so the preview you see is exactly what gets exported, eliminating the need to import, align, or guess at the final look.
